of the church was gone forever.

Salvage crews, led by
Father Baldassare Graffagnino,
would recover valuable
church records.

But only fragments
of everything else
remained.

which had stood facing the church,
was left partially standing after
the first few shocks (left).

But before it was over,
there was nothing left.

under azure skies,
a lonely road weaves its way
through abandoned fields of rubble.
